Anne Hassrick Armijo Anne Hassrick Armijo was born in Denver, Colorado into an artistic family. Her great grandfather was an inventor; her grandparents were architects and artists. Anne’s father was a museum director, so she spent many hours enjoying wonderful works of art. Her mother played the harpsichord and was an excellent weaver. Anne’s parents operated a cattle ranch outside of Denver, so she spent her childhood exploring nature on foot and on horseback. Always attracted to most every kind of art or craft, she won her first art award in junior high school, and continued to practice painting and ceramics throughout high school. At the University of Colorado, Anne earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, studying jewelry, sculpture, photography, drawing and painting. She later went on to study commercial art and graphic design at the Colorado Institute of Art. Anne moved to South Lake Tahoe, California, and worked in a large casino hotel in culinary arts, accounting and a career in purchasing. She received an award of excellence for designing the labels for a signature line of hotel amenities, the soaps and shampoos that hotels provide for their guests. She contributed to the planning of special events and worked as a freelance artist, designing invitations and marketing materials. She studied silkscreen at Lake Tahoe Community College. Currently, she is expanding on watercolor techniques and effects to explore a slightly different perception of the world using collage and assemblage. In her work, Anne strives to push beyond the confines of traditional watermedia to present her unique perspective and viewpoint using materials in clever and inventive ways. For the past few years, Anne has devoted herself to working full time on her artwork. She is an active member of the Nevada Artists Association at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City, Nevada, and has won awards in watercolor and mixed media paintings. She also belongs to the Carson Valley Artists Association in Gardnerville, Nevada, and shows her work locally whenever the opportunity presents itself.
